Carnegie Art Center
Please join us for the opening reception of "Recent Paintings by Mary Wyrick and Eric Evinczick"

Eric Evinczick Artist Statement:
My current series is a complex multiverse of beings, some prehistoric and some supernatural, that interact with each other in landscapes that make references to historical landscape paintings like the Hudson River School Movement. Nostalgia and loss permeate the work, along with a sense of impending conflict and destruction.

Mary Wyrick Artist Statement:
My recent work is based on old photographs that reflect personal and social interactions involving groups that are familiar today, cultural norms, gender roles, identity, and biases in events where local people created their own entertainment. I portray relationships between competitors, workers, management, and audience. Several paintings were based on photographs of workers in textile mills, driving forces of local economies and cultures from the twenties through the seventies. In this exhibit, I include the “Cotton Mill Girls,” (based on a 1941 textile mill picnic), “Miss Mayfair” (beauty pageant 1941), “Industrial Rayon,” (a mill in Painesville, Ohio), a Centennial Celebration from 1971, and a 1978 Pumpkin Festival parade.
